REGENTS EARTH SCIENCE - CLASS EXPECTATIONS
YOUR RESPONSIBILITY:
1) Do your HW* every night and bring it to class when it is due.
*HW always includes: having your reference tables, review
book and a pencil.
2) Know when labs are due and submit them on time (pre-graded if possible).
3) If you are absent the day of a test or a lab for any reason, YOU must see me
to arrange a time to make-up the missing work.
There is no "late penalty'" for anything, however labs submitted passed the due
date will not be pre-graded . Any work not made up by the end of a marking
period receives a grade of zero. Missed quizzes need not be made up.
GRADING
Tests (all consisting of Regents questions) - 60%
Homework - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - 15%
Labs and quizzes (combined) - - - - - - - - - -20%
Preparation, attitude, and participation - - - 5%
Pre-grading of labs: (Labs must be
done in pencil only)
Every student may ask me to go over any lab BEFORE THE DUE DATE. I can go over
the lab question-by-question as it is done in class or pre-grade the entire lab
after it's completed (usually after school between 2:39 and 3PM). When all
corrections have been made I will grade the lab as 105% and collect it. The
maximum possible grade for a non-pre-graded lab is A+ and few labs are that
perfect. It is therefore possible for any student to get a guaranteed 105% on
every lab. All it takes is the extra time and effort needed to get labs
pre-graded. Labs cannot be pre-graded in class on or after the due date.
All labs are available in my shared folder on the school server (not the
internet). If you lose a lab just go to my folder and print out another. Do not
ask me for extra copies.
At the end of the year I must certify that you have successfully completed 30
hours of lab work. If you have not handed in work you will not be permitted to
take the Regents.
SPECIAL NOTE: Hand in work to me personally and watch to be sure that I check
you off in my grade book. This is your guarantee that I know the work has been
handed in. Never put assignments on my desk and walk away. Never put work in my
mailbox or give it to a substitute. If there is no check in my book indicating
the work was submitted, then it wasn't handed in.
HOMEWORK:
HW will be checked frequently. You may miss 1 assignment per marking period
without penalty. After that your HW grade, which starts as 100%, will drop 5
points per missed assignment.
A HW sheet with the next weeks HW is distributed in class near the end of each
week. The HW is also posted on the regentsearth.com website and may be emailed
to your parents. The HW sheet will also list tests, quizzes and labs including
exactly what material is covered. There is no excuse for not knowing what
assignments are due
