Earthquake P-Wave and S-Wave Tra

There are a few things to learn about P and S waves:
> P waves are fast. S waves always travel more slowly.
> P waves can penetrate any layer of the earth while S waves cannot penetrate the liquid outer core.

There are many different things you can do with this graph but probably the best way to learn what can be done and how to do it is to watch this powerpoint presentation and to practice regents questions.

P waves are also known as compressional waves. They vibrate in the same direction the wave is moving:

S waves are also known as transverse waves. They vibrate at right angles to the direction the wave is moving.
