Identification Tips:
Garnet is most often red but
very occasionally green. Some large crystals may be made
into jewelry but its most important use is due to its hardness. Crushed garnet
is used as an
abrasive, as sandpaper for instance. Large deposits are found in the
Adirondack mountains of NYS.
