Identification Tips:
Hematite may appear dull or
with metallic luster. Samples are often tumbled and polished (lower right).
Inexpensive classroom samples are likely to look like the photos on the left.
It's streak is usually
red-brown (as per the ESRT) but may occasionally appear almost black.
