Identification Tips:
Selenite (gypsum) often
forms beautiful flower-like crystals (left). Inexpensive classroom samples
will look like the samples on the right. Selenite is very soft and, like talc,
it can be scratched with
fingernails however unlike talc, selenite often shows obvious cleavage. It lacks
talc's "greasy feel".
