Clastic (fragmental)
The term 'clastic' means made of particles cemented together. Perhaps the best way to understand the term is to make Rice Krispie Treats. This clastic food consists of particles cemented together with marshmallow glue. Very tasty!
The particles that form the clastic rocks result from the weathering of other rocks, any other rocks of any type or composition. The sedimentary rocks form when these particles are cemented together by minerals dissolved in water.
Clastic sedimentary rocks are classified according to the size of the particles of which they are made.
